Software defined networks (SDNs) offer network service providers (NSPs) the promise of improving the consumer experience while delivering new revenue generating services at a more rapid pace. SDN allows NSPs to leverage a standardized set of software-based protocols that enable innovative edge-computing services from multiple vendors on customer premises equipment (CPE).

The combination of abstraction, standardization and automation makes it possible for NSPs to more rapidly develop and deploy a wide array of sophisticated services that can be integrated to create differentiating offerings that appeal to connected home subscribers by:

  • Improving intelligence of — and insight into — connectivity in the home;
  • Enhancing functionality delivered by CPE; and
  • Reducing the time-to-market of value-added, revenue-generating, innovative services.

To learn more about how these innovative approaches leveraging software and virtualization provide NSPs with new opportunities to generate new streams of revenue read the “The Evolution of Network Virtualization in the Home: Improving User Experience and Manageability.”
